Fragment of a Corinthian pinax (Graef)
Zeus ( ) has been seated. He is
represented with head in
profile to the right. He has a pointed beard and wears his
long hairloose, with a headband. The left forearm is extended
obliquely upward, the hand with extended fingers seen on the
palm.
Athena is represented emerging from the head of Zeus, legs in
profile to the right, the body diagonally. Her dress presumably
consists of a peplos. She carries a shield, seen from the
back, on the outstretched left arm, the right arm raised.
At the left side of the fragment two hands, palms turned to each other, are visible, probably the hands of a goddess on almost the same scale as Zeus.
